"Last Chance: Bronzes of the Crown"
1999-04-04 until 1999-07-12
Louvre
Paris, ,
FR France
The exhibition allows the public to discover the collection of small
bronzes collected, for the main part, by Louis XIV, and which had
been presented, on the verge of the French Revolution, in the
Galeries du Garde-Meuble of the Crown (today the Hôtel de la
Marine, place de la Concorde).
This collection, of over 300 objects, is comprised of antiquities (real
or false), busts and various bronzes, including an important group of
bronzes modelled after those by Jean Bologne. Essential element for
monarchistic prestige, this collection reflects the knowledge and taste
of the princes who used some of these large bronzes to decorate their
residences.
Exhibition organised by the Musée du Louvre.
Curators: Sophie Baratte, Geneviève Bresc, Stéphane Castelluccio,
Sophie Descamps and Amaury Lefébure.
