Indepth Arts News:
"West 10 Interactive Online Auctions"
1999-07-17 until 1999-07-17
West 10
Coventry, ,
UK United Kingdom
The Internet is becoming an essential tool in the worldwide trading of art,
antiques and collectables. The growth seen over the past three years has
been far greater than the industry expected and is predicted to continue to
raise into the millenium, as the major figureheads in the art and auctions
industry take steps to place their business online.
On the 10th May 1999 West 10 Interactive launched an auction site aimed at
the smaller dealer and independent artist, enabling them to compete in this
growing marketplace. Lots from our first auction include contemporary art
offered by 20 professional artists based in the United Kingdom and Antiques
and Collectables, offered by smaller dealers from all over the world.
The site, although primarily a commercial site, is also designed to be used
as an online resource for dealers and enthusiasts with details of collectors
clubs, trade associations and events. The site is split into sections
focusing on specific collecting groups. Each area of the site hosts
specialist auctions and provides news and feature articles on events and
fairs. Chat rooms and forums provide a location where collectors and dealers
from all over the world can discuss their collections and hobbies.
Every effort has been made to keep the costs of participation low. There are
no fees for a standard auction listing. There is simply a vendor's
commission charge of 10% on any sold items, providing a viable, alternative,
trading place for artists and dealers, with easy and cost effective access
to the global Internet marketplace.
