“Online Art Auctions are becoming an alternate and viable way for artists to
sell their works” says G. L. Handon, a Tacoma, WA area artist and owner of
the Living Artist Gallery. The Living Artist Gallery is a virtual art
gallery featuring the works of living artists (world-wide) in various stages
of their career development. “We were bricks and mortar for awhile, but with
rents being what they are it became price prohibitive to maintain.” Since
going online the gallery has generated more interest and has reached artists
and patrons on an international scale. This past year has been spent mostly
in developing their Web presence and structure. “Even with minimal
advertising, we have made a few sales of original artworks and specialty
items.” According to Ms. Handon the newest feature, the Online Art Auction
is what people are most interested in. She goes on to say “Patrons are
getting the art they want at a price they can afford from some of the best
artists around today.” From consumer comments, the ‘no pressure’ sales model
(unlike traditional galleries) and the variety of work offered has been what
attracts them to this site. Ms. Handon has already sold three (3) of her own
works through the Auction and this feature has only been online for 2
months.
When asked why the name the Living Artist Gallery, Ms. Handon responded:
“It’s important to support living artists in order for our cultures to
survive. Without artists there would be very little historically accurate
accounts of our life and times. Simply, I felt the name should reflect the
purpose.” Feel free to visit http://www.LivingArtistGallery.com for your
