Indepth Arts News:

"oobr to become the first weekly publication to chronicle Off-Off-Broadway!"
1999-07-28 until 1999-07-28
Off-Off Broadway
New York, NY, USA United States of America

After five long years of putting out a monthly publication, oobr (the off-off-broadway review), the only magazine dedicated to exclusively reviewing the Off-Off-Broadway theatre scene, will begin appearing weekly starting in early September.

While oobr has provided an invaluable service in chronicling Off-Off-Broadway productions that would otherwise be overlooked, since the magazine was a monthly publication, by the time an issue would hit the streets more than 90 percent of the shows reviewed had already closed. Going weekly, something that was planned almost from the day oobr was born, will help address that problem. _I always intended to take the magazine weekly,_ oobr founder and publisher John Chatterton noted. _Off-Off-Broadway, by its very nature, is very fluid, with many shows running barely more than two weeks. But if we can get this magazine to producers and agents every Friday morning, they will see what_s currently running and have the chance to see these shows. And as a result, some of these productions might find a future._ Oobr began to address the problem of timeliness nearly two years ago with the creation of the oobr web site, at www.oobr.com. In addition to posting reviews of current shows, the site also lists a comprehensive weekly updated listing of over 100 shows currently running Off-Off-Broadway. Besides publishing the magazine and maintaining the oobr website, Chatterton also sponsors the OOBR Awards, an annual celebration honoring the best and brightest of Off-Off-Broadway. (The 1999 OOBR Awards were held July 12th, 1999 at the Union Square Theatre.)
