"Call for Entries: Global Women Project Exhibition"

This project, directed by Prof. Claudia DeMonte, at University of Maryland at College Park (USA) is looking for one woman artist representing each country of the World. All the pieces will be exhibited in the United States. The opening will be June 2000 in White Columns, New York. The deadline for sending artworks is September 1 st, 1999 since time is needed to prepare the catalogue and present the exhibition in other venues.

The concept of the whole piece is what represents woman for each culture, traditional techniques of each country will be given a preference, but all techniques and styles are welcome. Women artists are still needed in the following countries: Liberia Lesotho Mauritania Niger Rwanda Somalia Uganda Zaire Each artist is invited to submit a piece depicting what represents WOMAN to her. The piece can be in any technique, but should be a wall- piece, 8 x 8 (20, 5 x 20, 5 cm) unmatted and unframed. We suggest working on canvas or wood , not cardboard or paper since the pieces will not be framed. Pieces should be sent directly to the address indicated in the Entry Form by air mail, please no Air Freight. We suggest to write in the envelope: PRINTED MATTER/ For exhibition Only All the pieces will be auctioned at the end of the show, to benefit The New York Women Foundation, which help women causes all around the world. Pieces not sold will be return to the artists.
