Artists invariably use the human figure to express
psychological states of mind as an exploration of identity.
Eleven works from the MCA Collection present diverse
approaches to investigating issues of self, identity, and
societys modes of interaction and socialization. The works, in
various media including photo-based collage, video, painting,
prints, and drawings, range from the serious to the
lighthearted. While the artists do not follow conventional
approaches to depict their subjects, the works do contain a
narrative structure, each allowing consideration of a different
identity crisis.
