from The Froehlich Collection

For nearly twenty years, the German industrialist Josef Froehlich and his wife
Anna have been collecting art from post-war Germany and America. Their aim has
been to focus on certain artists, including Andy Warhol, Bruce Nauman, Joseph
Beuys and Georg Baselitz, and to collect their work in some depth. The result is
the Froehlich Collection, one of the finest private collections of contemporary art in
the world, a large selection of which will be displayed at Tate Gallery Liverpool.
To capture the unique spirit of the Froehlich Collection, this exhibition explores the
contrasts and similarities between the work of a geographically diverse group of
artists. Warhols iconic images of the rich and famous, and his glamorous
portrayals of sites of violence, are included alongside the large, brooding paintings
of Georg Baselitz and the dynamic drawings of Joseph Beuys. Eyecatching and
significant, this collection is not to be missed.
