Only a few miles away from fashionable Soho and
the commercial galleries of Chelsea, Brooklyn
seems a land foreign to many, yet it is overflowing
with artists. They inhabit its brick buildings,
warehouses and studios and are creating some
of contemporary art's most diverse and unique
works. To support this vibrant community, many
quirky, innovative artist-run galleries, such as
Pierogi 2000, Roebling Hall, Momenta and
Velocity have appeared in recent years.
