0044 represents the international phone code into England from Ireland.
This exhibition of twenty artists working in all media-- painting, photography,
sculpture, video, and installation-- explores the concept of identity in a world
that is growing increasingly global and ever more technological. Presently,
many of the best Irish artists now make their homes in England, especially
London. These artists, however, do not see themselves as exclusively Irish
or exiles, but as artists working in an international context where the work of
art takes prominence.
Whether the artists concerns specifically focus on
North or South Ireland, or a new space altogether, their work has an
immediacy that is analytic (rather than romantic), and a vision that is poetic
(rather than literal).
This exhibition is organized by the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery, Cork,
Ireland.
