"Edward Weston and Modernism"
1999-09-19 until 1999-11-28
Cleveland Museum of Art
Cleveland, OH,
USA United States of America
Edward Weston and Modernism is the first exhibition to explore this American
photographers importance as a modernist. Gathering about 150 vintage prints from the
collection of Mrs. William H. Lane, the show examines the key themes of Westons
landmark career. A chronological survey, it includes early constructivist-inspired portraits,
views of the Armco Steel plant in Middletown, Ohio, and examples from several of the
artists best-known imagesclose-up depictions of peppers, nudes, and ordinary objects.
Selections from Westons abstract studies of trees, dunes, and rocks complete the
presentation.
