"Shopping"
1999-09-04 until 1999-10-04
The Fat Channel
London, , UK United Kingdom

For a month, the shops and shoppers around Carnaby Street are involved in an artistic endeavour - Shopping. Shopping allows the culturally aware person to indulge in the joys of aesthetic enlightenment free of charge, whilst simultaneously keeping one step ahead in the fashion stakes. Shopping muddies the waters of art and advertising, clouds cultural credibility and commercial reality, and confuses the angst of modern art with the pleasure of consumption. Shopping makes the world a better place by relieving stress and making people feel good about themselves.

Shopping exhibits the work of 30 leading artists on shopping bags which are given away with purchases from participating stores in the Carnaby Street area. Each artist has worked with one of the stores to produce a limited edition bag displaying a work of art. Visit the Shopping Gallery at 15 Ganton Street, London, W1.
