Indepth Arts News: "Eugene's La Salon des Refuse" 1999-09-18 until 1999-10-08 Maude Kerns Art Center Eugene, OR, USA United States of America
As a protest, Refuse artists are calling for a string of Courbet tents that will allow individual artists to show additional works up and down the streets leading to the Art Center. This will move the Celebration to the University neighborhood, away from the Bank controlled downtown area where fees are charged to enter.
The Coubet tent idea is the brainchild of Eugene artist, Jerry Ross, who originated the idea for Eugene's La Salon des Refuse. Gustave Courbet used a tent to show his works during the World Exhibition of 1855.
