The National Museum of the American Indian broke ground on the 28th for its new location on the Mall in Washington DC. It is scheduled to open in 2002
on a site between the National Air and Space Museum and the U.S. Capitol. The new museum will
be a center for ceremonies, performances, and educational activities, as well as an exhibition space for
Indian arts and material culture.
