More than 100 photographs by P. H. Polk (1898-1984) portray southern life in its many moods.
Images include farmers working the cotton fields of Macon County, Alabama; studio portraits of
middle-class African Americans; and scientist George Washington Carver at work in the lab and in the
classroom. Polk was official photographer at Tuskegee University in Alabama for nearly 50 years and
served as head of the school's photography department.
