The exhibition consists of abstract work by Willi Baumeister 1889-1955;
and of several other artists who considered that abstract art has a
universal character. The focus is on the book Das Unbekannte in der Kunst
[The Unknown in Art] by Willi Baumeister and the abstract art of the
Fifties. For Baumeister, the ;Unbekannte; was the universal aspect that he
found in objects and in many different cultures.
