"Noguchi's Beginnings (1985)"
0000-00-00 until 0000-00-00
Michael C. Carlos Museum
Atlanta, GA, USA United States of America

Sculptor Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988), son of a Japanese poet and an American writer, was born in the United States, but spent his childhood in Japan. His work draws from both Eastern and Western cultural traditions. On loan to Emory from the Isamu Noguchi Foundation in New York, Beginnings features five separate elements in adesite granite. The sculpture, evocative of Japanese rock gardens, was created in the artist's studio in Japan and was first exhibited in 1986 at the Venice Biennale, representing the United States. On October 6, Beginnings will be sited on Emory's main Quadrangle.
