"BUY ART ONLINE - BENEFIT THE COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS"
1999-11-13 until 0000-00-00
artnet.com
New York, NY, USA United States of America

The day-long ARTWALK NY event begins the morning of November 13 with a slide presentation/discussion of contemporary art with Peter Jennings, Cindy Sherman and Klaus Kertess and a series of walking tours of artists' studios in the afternoon. The day of art culminates at a gala auction and reception in the evening with Peter Jennings serving as event chair, Madonna as gala chair and Donald B. Marron of Paine Webber Group, Inc. and Emily Woods of J. Crew Inc. as corporate co-chairs. This year's honoree is artist Cindy Sherman.

Artnet.com, the premiere site on the web for art content and e-commerce, is the lead underwriter and online host of the fifth annual ARTWALK NY, a day-long art event to benefit The Coalition for the Homeless to be held Nov. 13. For the first time ever, artnet.com is helping the Coalition expand its reach beyond New York to enable art lovers from around the world to participate in this historic charity event.

To attract international interest for the event and the charity, artnet.com is creating and promoting ARTWALK's overall online presence, including the first ARTWALK NY online auction. The online auction hosted by artnet.com is comprised of 25 works of contemporary art donated by world-renowned artists. During this historic interactive auction event, for the first time ever, attendees to ARTWALK NY will be able to place bids alongside fellow art lovers in cyberspace -- all to benefit homeless New Yorkers. Bidding in the online auction begins October 28 on artnet.com and ends the night of November 13 at ARTWALK NY. In addition, artnet.com will host an online preview of the more than 150 works of art available in the traditional live and silent ARTWALK NY auctions and will provide online forms for donations to the charity.

We are extremely proud to participate in ARTWALK NY, said Hans Neuendorf, chairman and CEO of artnet.com. Everyone should have a home, and ARTWALK NY is a fantastic avenue for artnet.com and the arts community to lend its support and help the homeless.

Funds raised at ARTWALK NY will directly benefit the service programs of the Coalition for the Homeless, including a mobile food program, a summer camp for homeless children, a job-readiness training program for women, permanent housing, crisis intervention services and a rental assistance program. We are honored to have the support of artnet.com. ARTWALK NY provides both artists and art lovers with the chance to join the Coalition in helping the homeless, said Executive Director Mary Brosnahan. Since 1981, the Coalition has been fighting for lasting solutions to this modern-day crisis through direct services, organizing, lobbying, litigation and public education services.
