The Contemporary Art sales at Rockefeller Center will present the finest works from today’s most celebrated artists and introduce innovative ideas to the auction market. Three important international collections will lead the sale: Property from the Collection of Jimmy and Leonora Belilty, Caracas, an unparalleled collection of Latin American and International Contemporary Art; Contemporary Art from the ORS, Doron Sebbag Collection, Tel Aviv, with a dual emphasis on portraiture and the relationship between painting and photography; and Property from the Collection of Mohammad Mottahedan, London, focusing on American artists from the 1980s. These celebrated collections will share the spotlight with signature works from some of the most important artists of the last 30 years, including Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
The Contemporary Art sales continue on 17 November, with highlights from the Belilty and Sebbag Collections. Included in this session will be Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Untitled, 1982 (estimate: $80,000-120,000), one of the artist’s most important works on paper from a pinnacle year in his career. Another highlight from the morning session will be an iconic work by Duane Hanson, Policeman, 1993 (estimate: $70,000-90,000).
