"Gerrit Engel: Buffalo Grain Elevators"
1999-11-19 until 2000-01-02
Albright Knox Art Gallery
Buffalo, NY, USA United States of America

Gerrit Engels color photographs of Buffalos Grain Elevators re-interpret these icons of modern architecture as only a European in love with modern American building can. Since early in this century, Americas industrial buildings have served as inspiration for European architects as powerful, monumental forms, unburdened by the weight of centuries of culture and history. As a German traveling to Buffalo in the 1990s, Engel with his color film renews this love of these simple, unadorned, uncorrupted, pure structures, that once symbolized a new age of industrial promise.
