"Postponing the opening of ART UNTIL NOW"
0000-00-00 until 0000-00-00
Detroit Institute of Art
Detroit, MI, USA United States of America

The Detroit Institute of Art decided to postpone the opening of its exhibition ART UNTIL NOW which includes work that maybe considered offensive due to some works religious and sexual themes. Works by Andres Serrano, known for his controversial photograph PISS CHRIST and Tracey Emin who explores a menstruation ritual in a video installation were to be featured in the exhibition.

While The Detroit News reported Monday that the exhibit was canceled, Graham Beal (the museum’s new director of less than two months) said it was postponed. DIA spokeswoman Annmarie Erickson told the newspaper: The museum has a responsibility to the artist and an even greater responsibility to the public. This is taking place as the museum is during a campaign to raise $320 million in donations.
