"the Pointed Arch: Idealizing the Gothic Age"
1999-11-24 until 2000-02-13
Detroit Institute of Art
Detroit, MI, USA United States of America

Explore the fanscination with the romance and ideals of the medieval past that developed in Northern Europe and the United States during the 19th century. Traditional Gothic patterns and architectural motifs - of which the most characteristic was the pointed arch - were often used as the design basis for furniture and other decorative arts. The exhibition will include objects and images in a variety of media that date from about 1840 to 1920.
