"Change of Scene XVII: Katalin Káldi"
1999-10-11 until 2000-01-09
Frankfurt Museum of Modern Art
Frankfurt, , DE Germany

The paintings of Kataliin Káldi (*1971) caught our eyes during a trip to Budapest. On the occasion of this year's Frankfurt International Book Fair with its special focus on Hungary we show a small group of works by the young Hungarian artist.

The extraordinarily successful Viola exhibition was an integral part of our XVth Change of Scene. What prompted us to mount the largest Bill Viola (born 1951) retrospective to date was the fact that one of the artist's major works forms part of our collection and has been on show here since the museum opened in 1991. The Stopping Mind installation in the MMK is one of Viola's most powerful works, as the retrospective demonstrated conclusively.

Once again, Change of Scene XVI consists of a combination of recently acquired items, self-contained work groups and items from our permanent collection, and presents our viewers with a quite new spatial arrangement in the building. The exhibition was made possible by a generous donation from the 'Verein der Freunde des Museums für Moderne Kunst e.V.' and we are especially proud of the fact that we can rely on the friends of our museum at this particularly important point in our history. With their support we will cross the threshold into a new millennium at the end of the year.
