"Dalai Lama to Give Address at Opening of Universal Declaration of Human Rights Print Portfolio"
1999-12-08 until 0000-00-00
Durban Art Gallery
Durban, ,
ZA South Africa
His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be giving a public address at the Durban
Art Gallery on Monday 6th December at 6 p.m. This address will be a
precursor to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Print Portfolio which
will be officially opened at the Durban Art Gallery on Friday 10th December
by Mme Danielle Mitterrand.
The Dalai Lamas talk is free but bookings are essential. There is a
limited amount of seating for early reservations but plenty of standing
room. This will be the only public talk given in Durban and is an
opportunity of a lifetime to hear to hear this important person speak. He
is a man of peace. In 1989 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his
non-violent struggle for the liberation of Tibet. He has consistently
advocated policies of non-violence, even in the face of extreme aggression.
He has received twenty nine honorary doctorates, awards, prizes, etc. in
recognition of his message of peace, non-violence and inter-religious
understanding. However he describes himself as a simple Buddhist monk. It
is appropriate that he should launch the week leading up to the opening of
the Human Rights Print Portfolio which will be on view at the Durban Art
Gallery.
