"Linda Gall: Photograph to Fetish"
1999-12-01 until 1999-12-24
Rebecca Ibel Gallery
Columbus, OH,
USA United States of America
Linda Gall: Photograph to Fetish, an exhibition featuring new paintings.
Gall works with images of people from old photographs collected from family
and friends and merges them with fetishes from our culture. The paintings
depict people complemented by objects which are drawn onto the surface,
offering insight to the group or individual. Gall's humor is ever-present,
as in St. Valentine Day Massacre, in which she reproduces a hunting group
surrounded by small alien figures. By handling the figures in a generic
manner, not specific to time or place, the artist suggests a universal notion
of family histories and shared memories.
Linda Gall has been exhibiting with the gallery since 1997, and this is her
first solo show. An Ohio native, Gall has been living in Zanesville for the
past ten years.
