"Howard Ben Tré: Interior/Exterior"
1999-12-11 until 2000-03-20
Palm Springs Desert Museum
Palm Springs, CA,
USA United States of America
Focusing on work made between 1984 and 1996,
Interior/Exterior examines the career of glass artist
Howard Ben Tré. Through sculptures, works on paper,
maquettes and photographs of public works, the
exhibition explores the artist's concern with the poetics
of time and space.
This exhibition includes several series of glass
sculptures that contain architectonic references such as
in Cast Forms, and Structures and Columns. In the
series Figures and Dedicants, Ben Tré became
increasingly concerned with the human form,
synthesizing architectural and figurative references.
These explorations led to subsequent series including
Vases and Vessels. Examples of his current work
underscore Ben Tré's interest in the spiritual and
mystical associations of the figure and its relationship
to ancient vessels. A full color publication accompanies
this exhibition.
