"Ernesto Neto: Nhó Nhó Nave"
1999-12-17 until 2000-01-30
Contemporary Arts Museum
Houston, TX, USA United States of America

Ernesto Neto, a Brazilian artist in his 30s, will be featured in his first one-person exhibition in the United States. Known for the sensuous style of his sculptures, the artist commonly uses lycra to create permeable architectural forms as well as small sacks, filled with colorful and aromatic substances like chili powder and coriander.

These smaller pieces have led to a new series of ovaloids and more monumental pieces which Neto sometimes calls naves ( a Portuguese neologism which can be translated as vessel.) In Houston, Neto will create a site-specific installation, Nhó Nhó Nave, which responds to the Museum's Perspectives Gallery spaces. The exhibition is organized by Lynn M. Herbert, Curator and will be accompanied by a Perspectives -format catalogue.
