"New Exhibition of Auguste Rodin"
1999-12-15 until 2000-02-13
Palazzo Isolani - Arte Communications
Bologna, , IT Italy

On Tuesday 14th December at 6.00 p.m. Palazzo Isolani will open its gates to the new Exhibition of Auguste Rodin, considered the most important sculptor of the XIX century and the father of modern sculpture. The exhibition will take place in Palazzo Isolani, an excellent 13th century palace in the old town, and has been organised by Arte Communications and the Auguste Rodin Foundation, with the support of the Comune of Bologna Assessor of Culture and the Bologna Education Authority.

The exhibition will host the most significant original plasters, through which Rodin recorded his genius. Rodin modeled his sculptures first in clay, which disintegrates over time, recording important stages of the composition and finished form by making a negative mould (un moule bon creu) from the clay to cast a permanent mould in plaster. The plaster was always the starting point for further innovations in the composition and replication in bronze or stone.

The aim of this project was to collect examples of Rodin’s most significant works. Such examples include, among others, the universally renewed figures as The Thinker, The Age of Bronze, Eve and The Kiss. There will also be twenty-five of the most important bronzes corresponding to the most significant works by the artist, presented in larger and smaller dimensions than the original versions.

This exhibition may be considered the largest collection of original plasters and corresponding bronzes in the world - with the exception of Museum Rodin in Paris. A complementary picture exhibition will document the original plasters and their history.

A book about this collection has been published by Gruppo Mondiale Est and printed by Amilcare Pizzi, one of the most renowned art publisher with the contribution of international experts. The photographic work was done by Mario Carrieri, one of the most famous photographers of sculptures. The book documents the history of the plasters and the bronze casts derived from them to confirm the high quality, validity and importance of this Rodin collection.
