Disciplines: A national art competition for students of all ages - theme
must be theatre, and has the broad based title - Theatre in 2000 closing
date is 30th June 2000 and entrants must arrange delivery and collection of
entries. This competition is to form part of AMFEST 2000 - a multi
faceted arts event to take place in Gauteng as part of AMFESTs 21st
birthday. It's aim is to promote the arts amongst the youth and encourage
them socially and educationally.
AMFEST is a one-act play festival organised annually by the AAPA to promote and further the aims of
all aspects of amateur theatre. Indeed the AAPA was founded to provide an official body for all amateurs to
voice their common interests and to provide the much needed clout which the disparate societies have
lacked.
The Festival, which has grown to be South Africa's largest and most prestigious event of its kind, has been
running for seventeen years in theatre ranging from the Wits Theatre, Space Frame, Roodepoort Civic and
the old Johannesburg Civic Theatre. Amdram societies from as far a field as Springs, Vereeniging,
Soweto, Garankua and Lenasia as well as those from the greater Johannesburg have been regular
participants. Awards are presented at a Gala Function at the close of the festival for, amongst other things,
best actor and actress, best set and best overall production.
Entries are to be A3 size and can be in any medium. 4 age
categories will be provided for. Students must advise place of education,
grade and age at 1st July 2000. More than one entry is permitted at R10.00
per entry the prize money will be a total of R1000 overall. AMFEST has the
right to photograph/video entries which will be displayed during AMFEST 2000
and the right to interview artists. No correspondence on the awards will be
entered into.
