Working mainly with photography and video
installations, Eileen Cowin's art focuses on the
traditions of narrative photography stretching from
19th century montages to reportage photo-essays
and storytelling photographs of the 1960s. Her
distinctive contemporary and cinematic sensibility
makes her work stand apart from that of her
predecessors. The visual stories she creates are
poetic and suggestive rather than representational.
This exhibition is the first major survey of this
Southern California artist.
