In Betterland, a veteran schoolteacher, faced with dismissal, discovers that
her principles are no longer valued by the institution she serves. Her
enlightenment is triggered by the arrival of the first genuine student sheís
had in years. The other high schoolers, catching the subversive scent of
curiosity, set into motion events that compel the teacherís final act of
defiance. Finally, defeated, she is nonetheless set free by her realization
that neither she nor the student is welcome in a system devoted to the
unexceptional.
Award-winning Playwright / Teacher David Lohrey is no stranger to the
classroom ñ or the stage. At present, David teaches at both the college and
secondary levels in the Los Angeles area. Davidís plays have been produced
across the country, including Group Rep and First Stage in LA.
ARTGroup (A Regional Theatre Group, Inc.) has created affordable theatre in

possible use of community resources, the company has brought productions to

the East Village and Roosevelt Island, with stops along the way in TriBeCa,
Chelsea/Clinton and Greenwich Village. The companyís newest project, The
Crossover Company, will create a bridge between professional and community
theatre, drawing talent from, and performing in, both Manhattan and the South
Bronx.

Beach, Cooley, Lucille Duncan, Deborah Kahn, Gordona LíDera, Marilyn Mineo
