"Sharon Engelstein: Boolean Unions"
2000-02-04 until 2000-03-26
Contemporary Arts Museum Houston
Houston, TX, USA United States of America

Sharon Engelstein, one of the most exciting sculptors working in Houston, will be featured in her first one-person museum exhibition. In the past the artist has created works based on her own body as well as generalized anthropomorphic forms- inspiration often coming from objects as diverse as medical instruments, sex toys, and taxidermy forms. Engelsteins work is carefully crafted and sometimes characterized by highly embellished surfaces.

Creating works specifically for this exhibition, Engelsteins work over the past six months signals new territory for her. Using the advanced technology of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing the artist takes the formal issues of her previous work to a new level. This exhibition is organized by Dana Friis-Hansen, Senior Curator, and will be accompanied by a Perspectives-format catalogue.
