"CALL FOR PROPOSALS"
0000-00-00 until 0000-00-00
Banff Centre for the Arts
Banff, AB,
CA Canada
The Banff Centre for the Arts has been a hallmark environment for creative
artistic practice for many years. Through self-directed residencies
(http://www.banffcentre.ab.ca/mva/cr/self.htm) in Media & Visual Arts,
artists are provided with opportunities to make new works and to research
creative concepts, ideas and theories. The Ceramics Studio, Sculpture Studio, and The Velvet Antler Print Studio
(print making) are accepting proposals for self-directed creative
residencies from professional artists for 2000. Artistic merit is the basis
for selection. Proposals must be compatible with available studio space,
facilities and resources.
Ceramics:
The Ceramics Studio offers an exceptional opportunity to work in a generous
studio environment, with access to a broad range of equipment designed to
support most aspects of ceramic practice. Firing resources include: 10
electric kilns, three natural gas kilns, a salt/soda kiln, two wood kilns
(one two-chambered climbing kiln, one single-chambered fast-fire kiln) and
raku facilities. Other features include clay mixing, a plaster room, glaze
room, sandblaster, wheels, extruders and slab roller.
Sculpture:
Our Sculpture Studio offers an unparalleled opportunity for artists to work
within a space that has easy access to wood, metal and stone-working tools.
In our environment, participants can explore and define form, space,
composition, subject, and content, using cross-disciplinary techniques and
materials.
The Velvet Antler Print Studio:
The Velvet Antler is a print media facility providing professional
facilities for lithography, intaglio, silkscreen, relief, letterpress and
photo printmaking. The studio houses a manual lithography press for photo
and waterless lithography, a variety of silkscreens, an angled light table
and vacuum table for screen printing, two etching presses, an electric
Vandercook letterpress, photo polymer platemaker, fully equipped darkroom
with platemaker light unit, and a computerized graphic arts camera for
filmwork.
While in residence, artists have access to professional advice, and a wide
range of creative, development and research opportunities. New media and
less traditional tools are also available for artists to discover in a
contemporary art context.
Deadlines for proposals are ongoing, notification occurs within two to six
weeks of application. If you want to learn more, contact Office of the
Registrar, The Banff Centre for the Arts: TEL 800.565.9989, FAX 403.762.6345
