is situated, and is
committed to
fostering a culture of
remembrance,
recognition and
respect for
Indigenous people.Designed
for the future of the arts, the centre is dedicated to
excitement, creative risk and surprise. It provides a much
needed medium scale facility for contemporary
performance, new media art and community arts, as well
as a new meeting place for artists, communities and
audiences.
The inaugural program encompasses contemporary
theatre, dance, new media art and performance,
contemporary classical, world and electronic music;
partnerships with local festivals including Brisbane
Festival, the DÄR Festival and Multimedia Arts Asia
Pacific Festival; and the beginnings of ongoing
partnerships with international events like Glasgow
City's New Moves (new territories) Festival. Brisbane
Powerhouse will also feature a challenging community
arts program driven by the commitment of local artists
and community groups, public art installations and an
ongoing program of free outdoor contemporary
performance events.
