"Summer Workshops 2000 in France"
2000-04-01 until 2000-10-30
Vitra Design Museum
Weil am Rhein, , DE Germany

Together with Centre George Pompidou, Paris, and Centre International de Recherche et d´Education Culturelle et Agricole (C.I.R.E.C.A.) Vitra Design Museum is offering a range of workshops led by renowned international designers and architects. The workshops will be held at Domaine de Boisbuchet, an old manor house in Southwest France (Charente).

Two workshops will be held each week (Monday through Sunday)in the period July 3 - Sept. 17, 2000. The seminars will focus on hands-on work, supplemented by lectures and discussions. Workshops 2000 will be led by: Matteo Thun (I), Andrea Branzi (I), James Irvine (GB), Johanna Grawunder (USA), Vladimir Kagan (USA), Simon Velez (COL), Maria Blaisse (NL), Ed Annink (NL), Janice Kirkpatrick (GB), Jean-Marie Massaud (F), Franco Clivio (CH), Hans Hansen (D) and many others.

The highly varied range of courses extends from topics relating to architecture, interior design, object design, furniture design and fashion design right through to photography. The workshops will consider both open issues and specific projects. For example, Simon Velez will erect a bamboo building, Vladimir Kagan will concentrate on the design of games and game ideas, while André Dubreuil will devise furniture items made of reinforcing steel. Italian designer Matteo Thun will creative tackle the element of water. The workshop led by James Irvine will construct vehicles, that will be put to the test in a race on the last day of the course. The new millennium also raises the question as to the future path design will take. Andrea Branzi and Dutch designer Marcel Wanders will both devote themselves to this topic - if from different perspectives.

The venue of the courses is Domaine de Boisbuchet, an idyllical country manor dating from the 19th century. Surrounded by spacious park-like lands, the Domaine provides not only an ideal setting for the workshops, but also a serious of attractive leisure time opportunities, such as canoe tours on the Vienne river, bathing in the lake on the manor grounds, etc.

Course participants are accommodated in simple but comfortable rooms, each with several beds. For an additional fee, single-bed or two-bed rooms are available.

The price for a one-week workshop including accommodation, full board, course fees and materials is EUR 575 for students. All other participants pay EUR 750. (All prices excluding travel). Participants must be 18 years or older.

Comprehensive information on the workshops is to be found in the Internet. A folder and video can be obtained from:
