Born in Cleveland in 1938, Geesaman studied physics and mathematics in college and became involved with photography during the 1970s.
She began photographing the landscapes for which she is best known in 1983. Largely self-trained as a photographer, she works in an
atmospheric mode reminiscent of the pictorialist photographers active about 100 years ago, while the stark abstractions of her compositions
resonate with more modern sensibilities. Her subjects tend to be formal gardens and manicured landscapes, suffused with soft, radiant light.
