"Photographs of the Paris Commune"
2000-03-14 until 2000-06-11
Musee d'Orsay
Paris, ,
FR France
The Paris Commune was the first major event in French
history to be the object of a large scale photographic
rendering and, like the American Civil War, it
engendered a profusion of pictures.
Action reports, reconstructions and photomontages offer
diverse viewpoints, sometimes contradictory or partisan.
Their confrontation allows for a study of all the ways
photographs could be manipulated, as early as that time,
and the difficulty to interpret them.
