An international group exhibition examining our relationship to time through works which expand
on specific moments. Growing out of the idea of the photographic moment and how single
instants become something else when captured in an image, the exhibition will include work in a
variety of media and by a range of artists.
Emese Benczur
Fischli/Weiss
Graham Gussin
Igor & Svetlana Kopystiansky
Beat Streuli
Marijke van Warmerdam
Moment brings together works which delight in the passage of time, focusing on slowness
rather than speed. Encouraging the viewer to linger, to enjoy a wondrous moment of connection
with the scenes and activity presented in the works, Moment is an exhibition to spend time with.
Partly diary, partly measurement of time past, the embroidered objects made by Emese
Benczur record simple observations on her daily life.
The photographic wallpaper of Beat Streuli slows down our normal experience of a busy
urban street to something strange and wonderful, recording movement of unknown and unknowing
strangers.
Using everyday materials and discarded objects, Fischli Weiss remarkable film The Way
Things Go is a fascinating and compelling chain of events set up in their studio. The often comic
progression from one contraption to another is like watching a Hitchcock movie, with objects instead of
people (The Independent).
An antidote to the age of high-speed transport and channel-hopping Moment allows respite from
the hurried pace of everyday life and presents the possibility of stepping outside our normal
experience of time-passing.
