"Bernie Springsteele - The Old City in Watercolor"
2000-04-22 until 2000-06-30
Brooklyn Coalition of Artists in Park Slope
Brooklyn, NY,
USA United States of America
The paintings featured all are renderings of locations in New York City,
most of Brooklyn. Bernie captures the essential nature of his subjects, and
demonstrates a fascination with places and architecture that shows the wear
of time. He is profoundly affected by his sense of being a part of history,
and he believes that part of his art is chronicling things that someday
won't exist.
His paintings are distinctive in their ability to effectively capture the
emotional essence of the place with a thorough, yet not overstated,
representation of light and shadow, bringing resonance similar to the work
of Winslow Homer and Edward Hopper.
Also a sculptor, Bernie creates sculptures that address youth through works
of young female figures on the brink of womanhood, exploring their own
private worlds. He has recently shown his painting and sculpture at the
Pleides Gallery in SOHO.
The Brooklyn Coalition of Artists in Park Slope promotes Member Artists by
