"Coole Kids: photographs in Vienna by Didi Sattmann."
2000-04-14 until 2000-10-31
Historische Museum, Museen Der Stadt Wien
Vienna, , AT Austria

For the first time the Historische Museum, Vienna is presenting an unusual series of photographs from its collection. The special aspect about this exhibition is the documentary approach of the current Zeitgeist being produced by the museum itself. Didi Sattmann was commissioned to document the metamorphisis of Vienna by integrating places such as the Donauplatte, Cafe Europe, Jugendkultur and others.

The resulting series of photographs (1995-1997) interprets the current youth movement, their expressions and general globalization. Each movement is influenced by a global direction of music (i.e. Punk, HipHop). A resulting global Lebensgefuehl (i.e. No future) influences youth movements in large cities all over.

Didi Sattmann does not want this series to be compared with his black and white portraits or conceptual body of work because the difficulty of producing this series were entirely different: Only through unconditional openness and support was it possible to overcome the barriers, mistrust and rejections.
