"CHECK IT OUT"
2000-04-27 until 2000-05-13
Rice University Art Gallery
Houston, TX, USA United States of America

The Rice University Art Gallery will present Check It Out, the 37th annual Rice student art exhibition from April 27 – May 13, 2000. Curated by 1996 Museum of Fine Arts Core Fellow and Houston-based artist, Francesca Fuchs, the exhibition showcases the work of graduating seniors who have majored in Art and Art History. Last year’s student exhibition, also curated by Ms. Fuchs, was widely thought to be the best to date. This year’s promises to be even better. Visitors will have the opportunity to see several works by each graduating student, in a range of media including painting, sculpture, installation, printmaking, photography and video. Works by students from all undergraduate studio classes, selected by the Rice studio art faculty, will be on view at the Rice Media Center.

The festive opening reception will take place on Thursday, April 27th beginning at 5:30 PM at the Rice Gallery. At 6:00 PM the Rice Players and Rice Dance Theatre will perform outside on the Gallery Plaza, followed by the awards ceremony in Rice Gallery at 6:30 PM. Throughout the evening renowned Houston DJ Jean Simon will spin a wide variety of tunes that will get everyone on their feet dancing. The opening reception of non-graduating student work at Rice Media Center is from 7:00 – 9:00 PM with film presentations beginning at 8:48 PM. The Media Center will also feature refreshments and live music. There will be free shuttle buses from Rice Art Gallery to Rice Media Center. Refreshments at the gallery will include complimentary wine and ale hand-crafted by the Bank Draft Brewing Company, brewed for those over age 21 by brewmaster Jeff Humphreys, Rice ’92.
