Beginning in March 2000,
the Harvard University Art
Museums will embark on a
year-long, multi-gallery
program of exhibitions
showcasing recent additions
to the collections. From Old
Master drawings to the
sculpture of Richard Tuttle,
these shows will allow
visitors the unique
opportunity to view a broad
spectrum of works of art,
and will offer a rare glimpse
into the collecting practices
of a major teaching and
research museum.
The first department featured will be the Asian
department, opening at the Arthur M. Sackler Museum on
March 11, 2000, followed by the first part of the Prints and
Drawings exhibition (1400 through 1945), opening on
March 25 at the Fogg Art Museum’s Straus Gallery. The
Busch-Reisinger Museum will put its recent acquisitions on
display beginning April 15, 2000. Deborah Martin Kao, the
newly appointed Richard M. Menschel Curator of
Photography, will show her most recent acquisitions in the
Fogg’s Lehman Gallery, starting on April 29, and the
second half of the Prints and Drawings exhibition (1945 to
present) will open in the Sackler Museum’s large exhibition
space on June 3, 2000. A few days later, on June 8, 2000,
the Islamic and later Indian Department’s recent
acquisition exhibition will open at the Sackler Museum.
Also planned is an exhibition featuring recent acquisitions
made by the newly formed department of Modern and
Contemporary Art.
