2000-05-19 until 2000-08-06
Brooklyn Museum of Art
Brooklyn, NY, USA United States of America

Vivian Cherry (b. 1920) has worked as a professional photographer in New York and the southern United States for more than fifty years. Her work-which includes images of the demolition of the Third Avenue El; local scenes of Harlem, the Garment District and the Lower East Side; and work on various film documentaries-testifies to the virtuosity of this classic New York photographer. Cherry's work illuminates New York history while it provides valuable insight into the career of a woman photojournalist.

Organization:Barbara Head Millstein, Brooklyn Museum of Art Curator of Photography.
