"KINGDOM OF THE SOUL: GERMAN SYMBOLIST ART EXHIBITION (1870-1920)"
2000-05-26 until 2000-07-30
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
Birmingham, , UK United Kingdom

The first major exhibition of German Symbolist art in Britain, Birmingham is the only UK venue on this international tour. British audiences will have their first opportunity to witness a remarkable period of creativity in German culture, as the exhibition examines the period 1870-1920. Erotic and challenging images of fantasy and legend are depicted in the works of artists such as Arnold Bocklin, Max Beckmann, Franz Von Stuck and Max Klinger.

The exhibition of over 180 paintings, drawings and sculptures contains many previously unseen works by largely unknown artists such as Georg Kolbe, Friedrich Stahl and Hans Thorna, with the exception of Arnold Bocklin and Max Klinger who are well recognised.
