Inspired by a show of impressionist paintings at
the National Gallery, Chapin made six trips to
France, painting outdoors to capture the essence
of the French countryside. Enraptured by this
experience, she carries the pleine air spirit with her
to capture coastal scenes and gentle Vermont
meadows.
Her work has been in more than 40 major
museum and gallery exhibitions, including the
Louvre Museum, the National Arts Club, the
Salmagundi Club, and American Embassies
around the world.
She studied with pioneering Vermont serigraph
artist Harry Shokler and with Mary Ekroos. Recently
she took a master class at the National Academy
taught by Raymond Kinstler. Chapin has hosted
lectures and workshops on plein air painting and is
currently writing a book. She recently founded the
Professional Plein Air Painters.
