Indepth Arts News: "DIROZOULOU" 2000-06-13 until 2000-06-18 BAT Centre Durban, , ZA South Africa
DIROZOULOU, the French meets the Zulu. A wonderful aray of wire beautifully
weaved baskets. Working with telephone wire weavers, Elliot Ndwandwe, Alice
Gcaba, Zodwa Maphumulo, Vincent Sithole and Simon Mavundla from Siyanda
informal settlement outside Durban, the collaboration has pushed all
boundaries to produce the biggest telephone wire art works to date.
The project was coordinated by Marisa Fick-Jordaan and the Bat Shop in
association with the French Institute of South Africa and Association
Francaise d' Action Artistique / Ministry of French Foreign Affairs. The
exhibition will travel from the BAT Centre to the Standard Bank Gallery in
Johannesburg, opening 11 July and then to Paris.
