"Fair Opens Tomorrow in the National Hall Olympia"
2000-06-14 until 2000-06-17
20th Century Art & Design Fair
London, , UK United Kingdom

The 20th Century Art & Design Fair will have an exciting mix of art, furniture, ceramics, objects and jewellery from some of the most important and influential artists and designers of the 20th century. From the Arts and Crafts movement, through Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Modernism and Bauhaus to the very latest designs of the last century.

Exhibitors who have committed already to this year’s fair include Country Seat and Morgan Greenwood with the finest furniture and objects from eminent and international designers such as Aalto and Bertoia, The Loschs from Germany, specialising in Murano and Scandinavian glass and Julian Hartnoll with Kitchen Sink paintings, drawings and sculptures. Charles Jeffreys Posters and Graphics will sell pop graphics and posters from the fifties, sixties and seventies by Lichtenstein, Warhol and Martin Sharp and Deco Originals will bring Art Deco furniture and sculptures. Fine pewter and silver will be sold by Titus Omega and French Art Nouveau glass of Galle and Daum from Mike Weedon. Michel Jouchet from France will bring European paintings, drawings, sculpture and works of art, including Vasarely.

The loan exhibition for the Fair is a display of the works of Verner Panton, the celebrated Danish post-war furniture designer. Panton was experimental and uncompromising in his approach to furniture design. He believed that it was his duty as a designer to exploit the most advanced technology – therefore he chose metal and plastics over wood. Using these materials he created geometric forms that would set the trend for the 1960s. Many of his most controversial and exciting works will be shown in the loan exhibition at the Fair, including some of the rarer pieces.

Visitors to the Fair will also be able to enjoy, free of charge, an exciting series of lectures designed to increase their knowledge of some of the most important developments in art and design during the 20th century. The lecture programme can be found online. Speakers include experts from all disciplines. Advance booking is advised. Tel: 020 7370 8345.

The Fair is a part of the ARTS Olympia series of events. ARTS Olympia is a fortnight celebration of the arts in the Olympia Exhibition Centre between the 8th and the 19th of June. As well as the 20th Century Art and Design Fair and the Summer Olympia Fine Art and Antiques Fair visitors can also enjoy the Antiquarian Book Fair (8-11 June) and the HALI Antique Carpet and Textile Art Fair (15-19 June). Visitors to any of the Fairs will be allowed free entry to all other fairs open on the day of their visit.
