"The Metamorphosis to Freedom"
2000-07-01 until 2000-10-15
Minneapolis Institute of Arts
Minneapolis, MN,
USA
This installation of fourteen paintings and prose by
Dr. Robert O. Fisch is a narrative of his personal
journey from suppression to freedom and
underscores the importance and privilege of being
free.
Robert 0. Fisch is a native of Budapest, Hungary, and a survivor of a Nazi concentration camp. After the war, Dr.
Fisch returned to Hungary and completed medical school, and then went to America in 1957. He became a medical
intern at the University of Minnesota in 1958 and has been at the University ever since. He has been a professor of
pediatrics since 1979. Dr. Fisch is known internationally for his clinical research on PKU (phenylketonuria), a
genetic disease. He studied art in Budapest and Minneapolis and has a distinguished second career as a visual artist.
For decades, Dr. Fischs feelings about the Holocaust and his experience were only an internal, private matter. Now
he believes his experience can be applied positively through Light from the Yellow Star: A Lesson of
Love from the Holocaust.
