"Ernesto Neto: Sister Naves"
2000-04-14 until 2000-08-13
Wexner Center for the Arts
Columbus, OH, USA

One of the leading Latin American artists working today, Ernesto Neto creates site-specific sculptural installations that explore architectural space and human behavior. His Sister Naves, a new work commissioned by the Wexner Center, offers you an opportunity to experience art through many senses. Visually exquisite, touchable, and aromatic--the scent of clove perfumes the installation--Sister Naves was conceived especially for the Wexner Center.

The title refers to the three sister ships of Christopher Columbuss 1492 voyage to the Americas. To Neto, the sheer fabric forms might suggest the Nina and Pinta, Columbuss smaller ships, re-united in Columbus with the replica of the Santa Maria, Columbuss largest ship, moored in the Scioto River downtown. Youll be enticed to explore this environment made for discovery and dreaming.
