Indepth Arts News:
"Max Beckmann Prints"
2000-07-14 until 2001-01-07
Metropolitan Museum of Art
New York, NY,
USA
A selection of recent acquisitions of early drypoints created between 1914 and 1922 by
this German master. Included are images from the artist's portfolios Faces of 1914–18
and The Fair of 1922.
The rawness of emotions and compressed spaces of these
kaleidoscopic images - ranging from
images of operating rooms to merry-go-rounds, they contain the seeds
of Beckmann's later oeuvre and often reflect his growing feelings of
disillusionment and despair following World War I.
