"DRINK AND BE MERRY"
2000-07-30 until 2000-11-05
Jewish Museum
New York, NY, USA United States of America

Wine and beer are an integral part of the socio-cultural landscape- from the most sacred rituals to everyday use.  Drink and Be Merry: Wine and Beer in Ancient Times presents 5,000 years of drinking culture in the eastern Mediterranean and Near East through an engaging display of artifacts, art and paraphernalia of the trade.

Organized by the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, this exhibition will complement The Jewish Museum's rich archaeological offerings and contextualize two of the oldest known beverages, valued in those times for their ability to lift spirits, inspire religious fervor, deaden pain and cure illness.
